Bio: “You know, I thought I could do it in time. I only had to paint the bedroom. That was a week ago. I’m nowhere near finished and in two weeks my parents will be visiting. By the time my parents get here I will have been working on it for nearly three weeks. I don’t know where they are going to sleep.”

Apa itu Future Perfect Continuous Tense?
Future Perfect Continuous Tense adalah tenses yang digunakan untuk menyatakan aksi atau peristiwa di masa sekarang / masa lalu yang masih akan terus berlangsung hingga di masa depan.
Ya, ya…. Tentu saja kita tidak pernah tahu apa yang akan terjadi di masa depan. Tetapi, kita bisa mengira / memprediksikan berdasarkan situasi terkini. Meskipun prediksi tersebut boleh jadi meleset.
Misalnya menurut perkiraanmu, pembangunan masjid yang dimulai tiga bulan lalu, akan terus berjalan sampai tiga minggu kedepan karena kondisi masjid masih belum sempurna saat ini.
Agar lebih paham, coba kita bedah percakapan Baki dan Bio seperti di bawah ini.
Baki: “Hi Bio, why are you very upset? (Hai Bio kenapa kamu sangat kecewa?)”
Bio: “You know, I thought I could do it in time (Kamu tahu, kirain aku bisa mengerjakannya tepat waktu).
I only had to paint the bedroom (aku cuma harus mengecat kamar tidur). That was a week ago (Itu adalah seminggu yang lalu).
I’m nowhere near finished and in two weeks my parents will be visiting (aku masih belum menyelesaikannya, dan dalam waktu dua minggu orang tuaku akan datang).
By the time my parents get here I will have been working on it for nearly three weeks (saat orang tuaku tiba disini, aku akan sudah mengecat (dan belum menyelesaikannya) selama hampir tiga minggu).
I don’t know where they are going to sleep (aku gak tau dimana orang tuaku akan tidur ***karena kamarnya belum selesai dicat).”
Perhatikan bahwa Bio mulai mengecat kamar tidur sejak seminggu lalu. Tetapi, pekerjaan itu belum terselesaikan hingga kini. Bahkan, saat orangtuanya tiba dalam dua minggu mendatang, ia yakin bahwa dirinya belum dapat menyelesaikan pekerjaan tersebut.
Maka, Bio menggunakan Future Perfect Continuous Tense untuk menjelaskan pekerjaan / aktivitas tersebut. Aktivitas mengecat tersebut bermula di masa lalu, kemudian Bio memperkirakan hal tersebut masih akan berlangsung di masa depan.
Durasi waktu yang dinyatakan dalam tenses ini biasanya berupa durasi total, yakni lamanya aktivitas / peristiwa tersebut berlangsung sejak awal (past) hingga suatu waktu tertentu di masa depan (future). Dalam contoh percakapan Baki dan Bio di atas, kamu dapat menyimpulkan bahwa durasi waktu Bio mengecat adalah 3 minggu. Waktu ini didapat dari:
- Bio mulai mengecat = a week ago (1 minggu lalu)
- Orangtua Bio datang ke rumah = two weeks later (dua minggu mendatang).
Jadi, total durasi waktunya adalah 3 minggu.

Rumus Future Perfect Continuous Tense
Subject + will + have + been + verb-ing (kalimat positif)
Subject + will + not + have + been + verb-ing (kalimat negatif)
Will + subject + have + been + verb-ing? (kalimat tanya)
Auxiliary verb ‘will’ bisa kamu ganti dengan ‘shall’, tetapi ‘shall’ lebih sering digunakan untuk subject I dan We. Sementara, kamu bisa menggunakan ‘will’ untuk semua subject.
Time frame Future Perfect Continuous bisa dimulai dari present (sekarang) hingga future (masa depan) atau dimulai dari past (masa lalu) hingga future (masa depan).
Selain itu, biasanya tenses ini juga dilengkapi dengan time expression dan obyek. Ada pula beberapa singkatan (contractions) yang sering digunakan dalam Future Perfect Continuous Tense seperti:
- I will = I’ll (berlaku juga untuk subyek lainnya: you’ll, they’ll she’ll, he’ll, we’ll)
